Dear Diary…
Whow…! What a first few months we have had. I hardly know where to start. Two months seems so far away, but just over two months is all we have been together as a squad and I'd like to say that we have all bonded very well.
It all started at the 'Tryouts' on 8th September at Next Generation in Anniesland. Arriving slightly late due to the heavy rainfall and traffic I soon noticed that I was in for a really hard day. Photographs were snapped on arrival, numbers affixed and application forms to be filled out. All this on a Sunday morning…! dear dear... All the other girls seemed to have stretched off and more were arriving by the minute. Everyone looked so glam and I couldn't help but wonder why on earth I had come along.
Shortly though everyone was chatting among themselves and it was really nice to see a lot of familiar faces. The dancing world is such a 'small' world and everyone always knows someone who knows someone you know!! Does that make sense?… NO?… OK, moving on…
The routine got under way and it was a very funky / jazzy number to Liberty X's ''Just a Little Bit''. Carole Anne taught the dance all the way through breaking everything down so that everyone was able to pick up the steps. Most of the morning was spent going through the full routine which all the girls seemed to grasp so well. Most of MY morning was spent dodging the camera man, tripping over my own feet and laughing nervously at things which no one else found amusing!! Right!!
Next came the actual audition which we had to perform twice through, with kick-lines and gymnastic ability also being tested. Questions from each member of the judging panel followed and the other girls in my group seemed so confident, I couldn't really hear what they were saying as my thoughts were on my own questions which were due to follow!! Face bright red, I answered each question true and very loudly… Don't ask why ''loudly'' just seemed to help me get through the spot-light stage.
At the end of a very enjoyable day, everyone looked tired out and after lengthy discussions about the audition, the questions, the kick-lines and gymnastic abilities not to forget lip gloss… we all eventually filtered away. Each one of us with a memorable experience and all wondering if they would or wouldn't make the squad.
So two months down the line here I am, I did make the squad and I'm so happy to have met some really nice people. Three rehearsals per week, games almost every weekend, photo shoots, PR work with the main sponsor of the Rocks ''Phoenix Mitsubishi'', Road Show and Fashion Show at Braehead Arena with Clyde 1, Scottish Home Show at the SECC, Disco Stars Road Show at Braehead and much much more still to follow!!
NO-ONE can say cheerleading is just about shaking your pom pom!! And how many of you out there get asked for your autograph every week?… eh?… can't hear you!! ha ha :-)
Until next time,
Luv Kat x
