Well hello there. That's me back again for another season! Yippeee…!
I'll tell ye, they'll be wheeling me on in ma wheelchair shortly…! I'm getting as old as Carole Anne… Ha ha…!
So here we are, another season almost upon us and I know I say this all the time, but I can't believe how time flies past so quickly. Especially when you're having fun!!
Just because the games are not in season for the team doesn't mean that we have been idle. For those of you who read my Vegas ProDance diary… (prob still not finished it yet it's that long eh?!!) you'll know what a great time we had there. We've actually been showing the rest of the squad some of the new routines since coming back home. FAST (actually SUPER HYPER FAST) is the word to describe them. No time to breathe or even think what's coming next, if you don't know them like you know your own scrunched poms you've no chance! Oh, and that's us just practicing them without… 1… The ice rink floor… 2… Those cuban heels on the boots… and 3… what, we actually need to hold a pom in each hand too…?!!
hhmmm… If you're not entertained, you certainly will be when one of us takes a tumble…! I've not moved so fast since my freestyle disco days… well OK, I'm off that sofa like Billy Whizz if there's a spare choc mousse going!
So mostly for the past few months we have been rehearsing 2 or 3 nights per week, working with the new girls and trying to give them an insight into what the games will be like and about all you mad game day fans! I'm sure you'll give them a warm welcome!
As always we have been inundated with loads of promotional work for the Phoenix car group at Braehead, Ayr races, a fantastic day at the Largs Viking Festival and basketball tournaments at Red Road and Ruchazie with Clyde1 and the Scottish Rocks. We also helped out at the Bighearted Scot Awards at the Holiday Inn Hotel on Saturday September 11. As well as helping out on the night with two slots of dance displays and the main charity auction (hey, a set of our poms were auctioned off for £250.00 cool eh!) we were invited along to have dinner on the night… yum yum…! I was hank marvin! (starvin')
Imagine my further joy when we spotted 'Hamish' from Monarch Of The Glen…! Still wearing the same kilt I may add… He was really nice and just couldn't grasp the whole 'pom pom' idea…!! Anyway I think we talked him into us going on the show. Well, we could do the 'Glenbogle Fair Day'…!! Or cheer at the annual Pig Race…!
Met Shell from Big Brother, just as nice in real life as on the TV. Think some of the nicest folk we met that night however, were the nominees and winners of the awards, it was quite emotional, gives you a reality check!
One of the new players signed for the Rocks was Gavin Smith and the Rocks staff thought it'd be a great idea to promote him by launching him off the side of the SkyPark Building in Glasgow…! 'What, literally off the building?' I laughed at Carole Anne when she told me…! OK it was an abseil but I was hysterical, until I was told that I had been nominated to also abseil down the building…!!!…!!!
On the abseil day I flew from my work during my lunch break with a warning from my boss that I had better be back on time…! gulp…! I replied with 'aye, well if the rope snaps on the abseil, I'll no be back at all…' think he said 'I wish…' but denied it…! hmmmm…!
So as Carole Anne and I watched the new player disappear like a wee ant down the side of the building we got harnessed up for our go…!! Carole Anne was a funny colour. Think she was a bit nervous. Me, I was more nervous I'd be late back to work. As I balanced on the edge of the 150' building the 'abseil man' hooked me up to the spaghetti network of ropes and calmly told me to just lie back… 'aye, OK, hurry up now…' I kept telling him 'will this take long? If I'm late back I've had it…'
Got in trouble then, so had to take it slow… Lay all the way back so I was completely horizontal with the building and started to pitter-patter my wee feet down the side of the building… This was OK I thought, no probs…
Was quite a windy day, and those who know me, know I don't bear much weight so my wee body was kinda getting blown about and occasionally my feet were nowhere near the wall. Still it was going well and I was having a wee gab tae ma sell when suddenly I noticed five faces pressed against the glass windows… All waving frantically…! I thought 'oh great I must be near the bottom.' So I glanced down to have a wee look! Oh dear! I've NEVER had a panic attack before, still don't know if that is what happened… but I felt really dizzy, my breathing went erratic and thought I was going to be sick… pphhheeewwww… I blew out a massive blast of air and concentrated on my feet again and started having that wee natter to myself again… Whooppee, after that I was A-OK hit the bottom to a big cheer and was named 'spider wumin' no not because I've got skinny legs…!!
So Carole Anne was on her way down and was looking good. However, I was unaware that she had a fall at the top of the building. Actually slipped off the edge and had to pull herself back up! She is braver than me, if I'd slipped off the edge of the building I can honestly say there is NO way I'd have done the abseil. So well done to us then eh…!
Well it's our first game this Sunday and we are all so excited! Can't wait to get back out there and show everyone our new routines. The new rookies are doing so well and have been working doubly hard to pick everything up, they will be fantastic.
Heres to Sunday then, hope to see you all there!
Bring it on! Go Rockettes!
Luv, Kat x
