Carole Anne, Katrina M, Clayr, Katrina F, Pauline & Linzi with Shane Ward at the BBC Children in Need Song & Dance Spectacular
|
We were really pleased when the BBC asked us to be involved with Children in Need 2007. 'Mother Theresa's in hot pants' they call us… Really, I couldn't wait to have a nosey around that new multi-million pound BBC office block they had going down at Pacific Quay…
Our task, if we were willing to accept it was to 'train' the BBC newsreaders and weather reporters a dance routine that they would perform with us on the 'live' show. OK then. Seemed easy enough eh? Er, or not as the case may be. We left the hard task of sorting out the dance routine to our Manager Carole Anne and after the third, maybe fourth attempt we had a simple enough dance that our beloved news and weather chaps could actually take in. Sorry guys, but that's why you's read the news!!!
After several rehearsals over at the BBC our helper chap in the news room, Rory, helped teach the weather and newsreaders their dance. Really I think he just locked them in a room and whipped them to make them do it. Whatever he did, by the time we met them all again on the live show night they were fantastic. Maybe Pudsey's magic dust really did work eh?
On the live show we were all a little hyper I must admit. The studio was jam-packed with fundraisers armed with massive cheques they had raised for this great cause. The corridors were lined with little armies of the next audience that would be taken into the studio after time was up for the first lot. It was crazy but a great atmosphere. Myself, Carole Anne, Clayr, Linzi, Katrina and Pauline all hung around in the 'green room'. Yah-Yah, the green room loovies.! Actually I don't have a clue why they call it the 'green room' cos it's not green! But there was plenty food and drink flowing so that was cool with me.
The runners called us for time and we all headed down together with our trainee dancers. I'm not sure who was more nervous, but I'm guessing the newsreaders. It was so funny to see them nervous about a silly little dance routine. They read the news live across Scotland every day and they were totally fazed by 'scoop clap, scoop clap'! Weird.
I had my camera with me and was snapping away randomly and as we stood outside the studio waiting to go on a few frantic voices started to shout 'it's Shane it's Shane'. I was like 'who's Shane?' and I was being continually poked and prodded and pushed forward 'it's Shane, it's Shane, get your camera' and this time a bit of panic in the voices. SO I grab my camera out and shoot it in the direction of the door as I was being shouted at to do and who is on the other end of my camera? The lovely and rather startled Shane Ward! hubba hubba. What a lovely guy he was. Chatted to me personally for a good…… 20 seconds! Could have been 30 seconds actually. He defo gave me the eye that's for sure. AND NO it wasn't the 'other Katrina' he was looking at, it was me.!
Seconds flew past and we were ushered on stage to a very loud cheery audience. . . 5 4 3 2 1 GO..! We were on… dance routine went really well and there was not one toe or finger out of place even with our new recruits.
It was one of the funniest events we have done this season so far but was just over so quickly.
Once back in the 'green room' we were all so hyper, had a quick chat with my new mate Marti and the 'Wet Wet Wet' crew and then stayed a while to party away and watch the show on the big screen. All in all a great experience. Mind you, I'll never look at those newsreaders in the same light again, they are so funny not all serious and stern looking like they are on TV…
