"Scottish Rockettes Wow Dunfermline Gala Crowd"
The 2006 Dunfermline Children's Gala parade, sponsored by Redrow Homes Scotland, took place on Saturday 1st July in Dunfermline, Fife.
The 103rd annual gala started at 11am with a parade of 3,000 local children from 18 primary schools in Dunfermline & Rosyth, 15 marching bands, and a range of entertainment acts including a stretch Hummer limo, Big Rory and Morag, Sammy the Tammy, Fuzzy & Seymour and giant Seagulls.
One of the stars of the show was the Scottish Rockettes cheerleaders. They performed a routine on the disco stage at the gathering point and also marched through the packed streets of Dunfermline with the school children. Sammy the Tammy – the top-rated football mascot for Dunfermline Football Club – took a shine to the 5 lovely lasses. Luckily the girls were on hand to resuscitate Sammy when he playfully 'collapsed' due to the heat on the gloriously sunny day.

Ali Matthews, Secretary of Dunfermline Children's Gala Committee commented "The Scottish Rockettes were a fantastic part of our parade adding glamour and sparkle. The crowd loved them too. One of the Rockettes said to me they hadn't seen a parade on this scale with 4,000 participants, even in Glasgow. We enjoyed them so much we want to book them again for next year."

Dunfermline Children's Gala is in its 103rd year. The parade was started by a donation from Andrew and Louise Carnegie. The annual parade of 3,000 primary school children includes pipe, accordion and brass marching bands and street entertainers, all of which require to be paid for. The parade ends in Pittencrieff Park (locally known as The Glen) where the children have a picnic lunch and play games. 18 primary schools from Rosyth and Dunfermline participate in the parent volunteer-organised event.
