Sport Relief is about bringing the worlds of sport and entertainment together to raise much needed cash to help vulnerable people leading tough lives here at home in the UK, and in the poorest countries in the world.
Sport Relief is an initiative of Comic Relief, in association with BBC Sport.
At the heart of the campaign was Sport Relief Saturday (July 15th) where thousands and thousands of people were involved in the sponsored Mile to raise money. The idea… to run, jog or walk a Mile forwards or backwards and possibly even wearing a crazy costume! The Sainsbury's Sport Relief Mile is the main organised event and there was 15 flagship Mile events across the UK that's one for every BBC region; London, Brighton, Southampton, Manchester, Belfast, Ipswich, Nottingham, Leeds, Newcastle Gateshead, Hull, Glasgow, Birmingham, Cardiff, Bristol, and Plymouth and the BBC cameras were there filming each of the flagship event to be sure to pick up all the action.
So the Rockettes were delighted to be invited to conduct the warm-up on the main stage for the milers. The Rockettes attracted everyone’s attention by performing a few high impact routines, before participants were then put through there paces to this year's Sport Relief single a cover version of 'Don't Stop Me Now' by McFly. The fun exercise programme ensured that all Milers were warm, stretched and motivated and 100% ready run their mile.
"The entertainment value added to the warm-up by the Rockettes was a real bonus" said participant Steven.
The previous two Sport Relief campaigns have raised over £31 million. Half of the money raised from these events is spent in the UK to help give those living in disadvantaged and divided communities a better life. The other half will help children and young people in the world's poorest countries, faced with the daily reality of extreme poverty, abuse and exploitation.
"It was an absolutely fabulous day and The Scottish Rockettes Pro-Dance Team were vital to the success of Sport Relief Mile in Glasgow. Thank you very much to the dancers for contributing their time, energy and talent to such a worthwhile charity and in helping make the event the soaring success it was. The funds raised across the UK has exceeded all expectations and the girls lifted the crowds' spirit and encouraged them to stretch and enjoy themselves during the warm-ups.
"The Scottish Rockettes were a delight to work with and the level of professionalism is second to none. I would certainly work with the team again and would recommend them to anyone who is interested in raising the bar on any sporting or promotional event they are organising. Their level of fun was evident when they ran the last 1-mile wave with the RAF Falcons parachute team. The girls were an asset to the event and added value to this special day." said event organiser Yvonne.
