Rockettes Dance Workshop #6

The Scottish Rockettes Pro-Dance Team held their sixth dance workshop at Braehead Arena on Sunday 21st January 2007.
The Rockettes are the professional dance team who perform for Scotland's only Pro-Basketball team, the Scottish Phoenix Honda Rocks, who are part of the British Basketball League.
Over 60 girls, aged between four and 16-years-old, took part in the two-hour workshop, learning a routine, taught by a member of the Rockettes squad, which they performed that evening during the Scottish Rocks vs. Newcastle Eagles game.
Carole Anne Deeney, Squad Manager, said: "We hold this event to give the kids the chance to see what it's really like to be a Rockette and who knows, maybe even find a Rockette of the future. We're always being asked about a junior squad, however time restrictions at the moment don't allow us to do this, so this is the next best thing. The girls are split into groups according to their dance ability and taught a routine based on that."
Katrina (Kat) McMahon, Vice-Captain, taught the youngest group of dancers, aged between four and eight years old.
She said: "I teach dance to girls this age all the time and I love it. They're so full of energy and get really excited about performing. My girls were fantastic. They went out in front of the crowd and gave it their all."
Both Carole Anne and Kat think it's definitely a worthwhile event and wish they had the time for more.
They said: "We coach in schools throughout Glasgow and although the girls enjoy learning the routines, they are missing out in the main performance part of the dance. The Workshop gives them the opportunity to perform in front of a large crowd and really get a taste of what being a Rockette is like."
